So many Critics

The three critics I chose that fit my way I view TV/Movies were Roger Ebert, Todd VanDerWerff, and  Peter Travers. The reason why I chose these critics is not only do they help me realize things I may have missed during my first viewing of a movie or and Episode.

The first critic I would like to talk about is Todd VanDerWerff. He writes the AV clubs reviews for The NBC show Community. The reason why I love his reviews so much is that he gives such a detailed analysis of not only the episodes but also what changes that the characters have gone through. I also feel that the way he thinks about how none of the episodes are bad and the link I posted is to one of my favorite Community episodes and it is also one of my favorite episodes along with probably my one of my favorite reviews. The reason why this is one so much is how he makes the connection of how whenever the group hugs near the end of the episode and how both Jeff and Pierce are outside of the hug. I had never fully realized this and actually how much it meant within the season for this to happen until I saw this review.

The next reviewer that I am going to talk about is Roger Ebert. One of the main reasons why I like his reviews so much is I have been reading his reviews for about ten years. Another reason why I like his reviews so much is because they are really simple and to the point. For the most part he give a short synopsis of what the movie is then he give a couple of paragraphs about how he really feels about the movie. The link that I posted is his review of Silver Linings Playbook. The reason why I like this review so much is that it got me to think about another aspect of the movie and that part is how the main character Pat and his dad have a similar journey.

The last reviewer I am going to talk about is Peter Travers. The main reason why like him is because I feel like his reviews are more casual and that part I really like because then I can usually get a feel of what the general public will feel about the movie. The other part of his reviews don't give a synopsis first and then his view point instead he combines them together which sort of makes it sound like a conversation you would have with someone when you ask them what you though about this movie. In the link above the writing is sort of like that. The reason why I like this review so much is it doesn't go into far about the subtext /symbolism of the film and pretty much sums up if he thinks the viewer will enjoy it.
